D. International Institutional Arrangements for Follow-Up of CSD-13 Decisions(s) Further enhance the coordinating role of UN Water, including its Secretariat in UN DESA, to maintain continuity for follow-up on the progress made in implementing the water and sanitation agenda within the CSD process, and request UN Water to:
(i) Review with the relevant UN agencies their roles and responsibilities in implementing and monitoring the water and sanitation agenda;
(ii) Facilitate country-level coordination of UN agency activities;
(iii) Coordinate monitoring and reporting initiatives such as JMP, the World Water Development Report and GEMS/Water, as well as strengthen inter-linkages among them;
(iv) Conduct voluntary consultations with interested Governments on UN Water related activities;
(v) Contribute to the preparation of the Secretary-General’s reports on progress and report to the Commission through its secretariat;
(vi) Give equal consideration to water and sanitation in its terms of reference and promote the inclusion of water and sanitation in UNDAFs and CCFs;
(vii) Use the Water for Life Decade and inputs from the Secretary-General’s Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation to reinforce on-going implementation efforts toward the water and sanitation targets.(t) Strengthen monitoring and reporting capacities of the UNICEF/WHO Joint Monitoring Programme for assessing progress toward the implementation of the water access and sanitation targets, and of UN Water’s World Water Development Report for monitoring progress on IWRM.
(u) Support UN DESA in implementing the decisions of CSD 13, especially for:
(i) Strengthening water monitoring activities;
(ii) Updating the matrix of policy options and practical measures on a regular basis to make it a living document;
(iii) Developing web-based information sharing tools to disseminate information on implementation.(v) Strengthen the capacities of UN-HABITAT to provide, within its mandate, increased assistance to developing countries, including through its Slum Upgrading Facility;
(w) Request UN-HABITAT to further enhance, in close collaboration with relevant UN agencies and programmes as well as other partners, global monitoring of progress in the implementation of human settlements goals and targets, as well as measures agreed at CSD-13 concerning human settlements, including through the Global Urban Observatory and the Best-Practices Database;
(x) Further support developing countries in the development and application of indicators for sustainable development at the national level, including integration of gender aspects, on a voluntary basis, in line with national conditions and priorities.
3. Decides to devote, starting in 2008, a separate segment of its future review sessions to the implementation of the decisions of the Commission’s previous cycles without prejudice to the programme of work of the Commission adopted at its eleventh session, for which the Secretary General’s report will serve as basis for review and discussion.
